Black Mission Figs are sweet and filled with distinctive fig flavor. Ground Cardamom, Ground Cinnamon and Ground Nutmeg add the spice while a shot of acidic lemon juice offers balance to the sweet Black Mission Figs.

Trim the stems off the figs and cut them in half. Cover with water and soak overnight.
Pour figs and water into a 1-quart heavy bottom saucepan and add the sugar and spices. Bring to a brisk simmer, stirring once or twice and cook on medium-to-medium high heat until the figs break down and thicken the mixture. The cooking will take about 20 minutes.
When the mixture is almost thick enough to hold to a spoon stir in the orange juice then remove from the heat and allow it to cool completely before pouring into a container and sealing. Keep jam in a refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
