Hamshuka is a spin on classic Israel/Yemenite street food to be enjoyed at parties or as a first course for groups. Our version is seasoned mostly with hawaij, which is our organic ground cumin recipe.

Ingredients

Serves 10

  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil

  • 1 Large Onion , chopped

  • 4 Cloves Of Garlic, minced

  • 1 3/4 Pounds Ground Lamb

  • 1/2 Pound Ground Beef

  • 2 Tablespoons Hawaij

  • 1 Tablespoon Paprika

  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Zest

  • 1 Large Tomato, seeded and chopped

  • 1/4 Cup Pine Nuts, toasted

  • 1/4 Cup Pistachios, toasted

  • Kosher Salt And Fresh Ground Black Pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Add the oil to a large skillet over medium high heat. Cook until the onions are translucent and add the ground meats, turn the heat to high and cook while crumbling the meat with a wood spoon.

  2. When the meat is browned and cooked, drain off most of the excess oil. Add the Hawaij, paprika and lemon zest, cook for 3 minutes then add the diced tomato and nuts. Cook for 5 minutes, season with salt and black pepper and remove from the heat. Serve over hummus, garnish with fresh parsley, chile sauce and grilled pita.
