  1. In a medium sauce pan heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the brown calrose rice and saute until lightly toasted. Once toasted, add the lentils, sprinkle umami sauce starter in, and continue cooking until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. Slowly add water, whisking until combined and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and pour contents into a crock pot. Cook on LOW for 3 to 3 1/2 hours or until rice is cooked. Season to taste.
