Sushi rice is a mildly sweet, short-grained rice that cooks to a malleable, sticky (glutinous) texture. Commonly seasoned with rice wine vinegar, salt and sugar, it is typically steamed to use in sushi rolls and other formations. In Japan, where sushi and sashimi play an important part of the traditional diet, sushi restaurants are known not only for the freshness of their fish, but also for their technique and the quality and flavor of their sushi rice.
This speckled sushi rice blend features black quinoa, an extremely nutritious seed that grows in the Andes Mountains and dates back to ancient Peru. In addition to boasting outstanding flavor, this blend guarantees a striking presentation in traditional sushi dishes and makes a delicious alternative to rice or couscous.
These compact rice balls make perfect snacks, and almost serve as a Japanese equivalent of a sandwich. Here, the delicate flavor of our Kokuho Rose Rice provide a perfect palette for the assertive flavors of smoked salmon and nori.
