Blackberries have a rich, mellow sweet flavor. Although an aggregate fruit, blackberries are considered the largest of the wild berries. Like raspberries, blackberries are called bramble berries, because they grow on thorny bushes in temperate climates, primarily in North and Central America, Europe, the British Isles and Australia.
Early American settlers didn't find many blackberries because they tend to grow in dense, heavy forests. Once the land was cleared, around 1825, blackberry cultivation began in North America.
Sometimes called the "cabernet of berries," blackberries have an intense, inky concentrated flavor, comparable to wine. Our dried Blackberries have a more concentrated sweetness than fresh blackberries, a meatier texture and stay viable longer.
